About the Therapist
Alan Bennett-Law is a Senior Accredited Counsellor and EMDR Europe Accredited Practitioner with more than two decades of therapeutic experience. He has worked in private practice since 2002 and brings extensive experience across counselling, trauma therapy, Employee Assistance Programmes, education, neurodivergence, eating disorder services, substance misuse services, and forensic settings.
Alan works integratively and systemically, tailoring therapy to the individual rather than expecting clients to fit a standardised model. He has particular experience supporting neurodivergent clients, including people with autism, ADHD, and dyslexia, and works from a neurodiversity-affirming perspective that recognises both the challenges and strengths associated with different cognitive profiles.
His therapeutic work includes trauma, bereavement and complex loss, depression, anxiety-related difficulties, low self-esteem, relationship problems, substance misuse, eating-related difficulties, anger and conflict, attachment difficulties, shame, chronic pain, and complex emotional presentations. He is also trained in CBT, Compassion-Focused Therapy, ACT, DBT, Trauma-Focused CBT, systemic therapy, psychodynamic and existential approaches, and specialist EMDR adaptations.

What to Expect
Alan offers an experienced, collaborative, and adaptable therapeutic space where clients can explore difficult experiences without being expected to fit into a rigid model of therapy. His approach takes account of each person’s psychological history, relationships, environment, identity, neurodivergence, and individual way of processing information and emotion.
For clients affected by trauma, therapy may incorporate EMDR alongside attachment-informed, compassion-focused, systemic, or cognitive approaches. For neurodivergent clients, Alan can adapt the pace, language, structure, therapeutic materials, and style of sessions to make therapy more accessible and manageable.
Alan can support trauma, PTSD, bereavement, depression, anxiety-related difficulties, low self-esteem, shame, attachment and relationship problems, neurodivergence, substance misuse, eating-related mental health difficulties, anger and conflict, chronic pain, workplace stress, and other complex emotional concerns. Therapy may be short-term and solution-focused or longer-term depending on the client’s needs and goals.
