Peter Walkling-Roberts is a BABCP-Accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist and an EMDR Europe Accredited Practitioner with extensive experience across NHS Community Mental Health Teams and private practice.
He specialises in treating PTSD, complex trauma, anxiety disorders, depression, OCD, psychosis and personality-related difficulties using evidence-based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and EMDR.
Peter’s approach is collaborative, compassionate and tailored to each client’s individual needs. Rather than applying the same treatment plan to everyone, he works with clients to develop a clear understanding of their difficulties and identify the therapeutic approaches most likely to support meaningful change.
His experience includes working with complex mental health presentations within NHS and private settings, including trauma-related difficulties, severe anxiety, depression, psychosis, bipolar disorder and personality difficulties.
Peter places particular importance on creating a safe and supportive therapeutic environment where difficult experiences can be explored without judgement and at a pace that feels manageable.
Alongside his clinical work, Peter has experience providing clinical supervision to trainee and qualified therapists and remains committed to ongoing professional development and high standards of evidence-based practice.
His aim is to help clients develop greater understanding of their difficulties, strengthen coping strategies, build resilience and confidence, and work towards lasting psychological recovery and emotional wellbeing.
Peter offers a collaborative, compassionate and structured therapeutic environment where difficult experiences can be explored safely and without judgement.
Therapy begins by developing a clear understanding of what is happening for you and how your thoughts, emotions, behaviours, physical responses and past experiences may interact.
Depending on your needs, Peter may use Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, trauma-focused CBT or EMDR. Treatment is tailored to the individual and based on a shared psychological formulation rather than simply applying a standard protocol.
For trauma-related difficulties, therapy may involve gradually processing distressing memories, understanding trauma responses and developing strategies to manage triggers, anxiety and avoidance.
Peter also has extensive experience working with more complex mental health presentations, including psychosis, personality-related difficulties and severe or enduring mental illness.
Throughout therapy, the aim is to help you develop greater understanding, strengthen coping skills and build resilience and confidence, while supporting meaningful and lasting psychological recovery.
