Catherine Lawrence is a BACP Accredited Person-Centred Experiential Counsellor who works with adults experiencing anxiety, low mood, stress, trauma, relationship difficulties, loss, identity concerns and other emotional challenges.
When people come to Catherine feeling anxious or low, the work is not simply about analysing the situation. Instead, she gently helps clients approach difficult feelings in a safe and manageable way.
Catherine listens carefully and reflects what she hears, helping clients stay with their experience rather than immediately pushing difficult thoughts, emotions or sensations away. This can create space for something new to emerge.
As feelings and bodily sensations are given room, clients may begin to understand their situation differently. Sometimes nothing outside has changed yet, but the way the problem is experienced can change significantly. From there, a clearer sense of what is needed next can begin to develop.
Catherine’s work is grounded in the Person-Centred Experiential Approach and can incorporate Focusing-Oriented Therapy, emotion-focused work and greater awareness of how feelings are experienced in the body.
Her wider inspirations include Faith Traditions, Mindfulness, Focusing, the Enneagram, Non-Violent Communication and Child-Led Education. Catherine warmly welcomes diversity and aims to create a therapeutic relationship where clients can feel accepted, respected and able to explore who they are without judgement.
Catherine offers a calm, accepting and collaborative space where you do not need to arrive with everything figured out.
Rather than immediately analysing or trying to change difficult emotions, Catherine may gently help you notice what is happening inside and stay with the experience for a little longer.
Feelings and bodily sensations that have been pushed aside can sometimes contain important information. Giving them space can help you discover a different understanding of what you are experiencing and what you may need.
This is central to Catherine’s Focusing-Oriented and Person-Centred Experiential approach. Therapy is not about someone else telling you what your experience means. Instead, Catherine works alongside you as you develop your own understanding.
Her work can support anxiety, depression, trauma, bereavement, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem, stress and burnout, neurodiversity, ADHD, identity concerns, life transitions and wider emotional difficulties.
Catherine warmly welcomes diversity and recognises that identity, culture, relationships, spirituality, neurodiversity and life experience can all influence the way we make sense of ourselves and the world.
